The Waldorf School of Pittsburgh's Heartwood Annex is a new, single-classroom building located on the school’s historic and charming campus in the Bloomfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Throughout the design and construction of this facility, the owners were interested in meeting Living Building Challenge standards, and so were eager to incorporate reclaimed materials into the project.
Doors Unhinged provided five doors, which originated from both CMU's Warner Hall President's Suite and 30 Isabella St. on Pittsburgh's North Shore, as well as high-quality, reclaimed, matching hardware.
By going reclaimed, the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh diverted 664 lbs. of material from the waste stream, prevented the release of 0.486 Metric Tonnes of new CO2 emissions from being release. It also managed to further cultivate a healthy environment for the children who attend the school.
